Original item: Only One Available. This unmarked Cold War Bulgarian Army Officer Dress Dagger (or dirk) is a unique example of a rarely encountered piece of post-World War Two edge weapons, and is in overall good condition. All gilt brass components have been worn down to some, but not to a detrimental degree, with no patina present. Squared pommel is complete with a starred bottom. Grip is of an ivoroid that mimics the “grain” of the ivory nature and is separated by a decorative brass fitting. This is some slight chipping apparent in the grip near the bottom of the pommel. Ferrule is attached but slightly offset from the rest of the hilt. Crossguard is set well and the buffer pad is complete, although a little twisted.
Scabbard is of the same gilt brass as well as a nickel plated steel body that shows no tarnishing, with just a bit of lifting. The chape has some minor dents; scabbard throat fitting shows the proud lion of the Bulgarian coat of arms on one side, and the former USSR Red Square building on the other. Dagger clip and chain have slightly more wear than any of the other components.
The blade is nickel plated steel with a single narrow fuller on teach side, and contains no serious issues other than some minor finish flaking in some spots. No chips, cracks, or rusting.
This dress dagger would be a fine example for the avid collector.
